Since 2008, the Maud Fontenoy Foundation has been operating in France and internationally to protect our oceans. We organise educational activities focused on the environment for the younger generation and general public, with support from scientific partners and the French Ministry of National Education. The latter has made us responsible for its Sea Education programme and relaunch of the Sea Classes initiative. Our aim is both ecological and social: to protect the ocean and save people. We start from a strong principle that protecting the environment, particularly the ocean, is a humanitarian issue that affects all mankind, without exception. For us, the oceans are a powerful force, a potential for the future. Every year, 700,000 children benefit from our programmes.

Emblem of the Dalmatian coast, Dubrovnik is magnificently positioned on a rocky spur. History is sovereign here, in this ancient city, now a listed UNESCO World Heritage site. You will perhaps be surprised by the proportions of La Placa, the central drag through the city. The sheer width of it can be explained by the fact that it straddles a former lagoon. The elegant houses along La Placa are built in the legendary travertine stone. At Pile gate, you will be greeted by the statue of the patron saint of Dubrovnik, and you can admire the coastline as you walk along the ramparts. But what’s inside Fort Saint John, adjoining the outer walls? A maritime museum and an aquarium featuring rare fish from the Adriatic.
From the pier, board your coach for a 45-minute ride to Epidaurus.
Lying 30 km (18.6 miles) east of Nafplion, Epidaurus is known for its ancient theatre. Considered one of the most important sanctuaries in the ancient world, Epidaurus was dedicated to the god of medicine, Asclepius. The world-famous Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, built in the 4th century BC, is a marvel of harmony and acoustics and the best-preserved ancient theatre in Greece. Built in limestone, it can accommodate 12,000 spectators.
Next, re-board your coach for a ride to the archaeological site of Mycenae. The first in-depth excavations were carried out in 1876 by the German archaeologist Schliemann, who was obsessed with finding the grave of King Agamemnon. His diligent work exposed the famous Lion Gate, the entrance to the city which contains the shaft burial graves of some ancient nobles. A short distance away is the Beehive Tomb, so called due to its unusual shape.
Finally, you will board your coach for a 30-minute ride to Nafplion.

Take a coach tour around this island of wild beauty brimming with history and influenced by many civilisations and cultures.
You will start by visiting the monastery of Panagia Myrtidiotissa, Our Lady of the Myrtle. Constructed on a natural rocky opening in the middle of trees, it symbolises the Kytherians’ Orthodox faith. According to tradition, the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary was found here by a shepherd, guided by a vision, in the 14th century. The church is built in the style of a three-nave basilica and you will be able to admire icons from the 17th and 18th centuries.
You will then go to the village of Mylopotamos, known as the “river of mills” because of the 22 watermills built along a small stream for grinding wheat. These days, only Phill's Watermill remains in working order. These mills are to be found in a gorge, which starts from the magnificent Fonisa waterfall. In summer, the stream above the waterfall flows from the mountain in the middle of town, near Platea Square. You will be able to quench your thirst in a cafe in the shade of the plane trees.
First you will discover Chora, the island’s striking capital, with its narrow streets, its whitewashed houses, its old residences and its Venetian buildings. You will also visit its Venetian castle, constructed in 1503; it is called “the eye of Crete” due to its strategic position overlooking the Ionian, Aegean and Cretan Seas. It has captivating views of the sea and Chora. The castle houses Kythira’s historical archives. In Pylos, between the vestiges of the Palace of Nestor and the ruins of Methoni Castle, discover two places that welcomed the heroes of the Iliad in ancient times.
Discovered in 1939, the ruins of the Palace of Nestor are an opportunity to dive back into one of the greatest stories of ancient Greece: the Iliad. Between the remains of what was once undoubtedly a huge throne room, or along the stones that most likely formed part of the queen’s bathroom, imagine the life of King Nestor, who advised King Menelaus during the Trojan War.
Mentioned in the Iliad under the name Pedasus, Methoni is the last city Agamemnon offered to Achilles to appease his rage. This fortified town from the 4th century BC prospered until the Byzantine period, as evidenced by its impressive ruins. Occupying the southwestern part of the cape, the eponymous castle extends out to a fortified islet crowned with an octagonal tower protected by the sea.

Finally, you will arrive at the picturesque village of Exo Chora, where you can admire a centuries-old olive tree and browse through the handicraft shops to soak up the authenticity of Zakynthian rural life.

The coach is parked 10 minutes'walk from the pier. Once you have boarded the coach, you will depart for a 1 ¼ -hour drive to Arta, region of Greece still largely untouched by tourism.
The modern town of Arta sits on the ancient site of Ambracia. An ancient Corinthian colony dating back to the 7th century B.C. which later became the capital of the Kingdom of Pyrrhus in about 295 B.C.
Arriving into Arta, who means “fortress”, you will see the famous stone bridge standing over the river Arachthos. The bridge dates back to the 17th century but it is built on the site of older bridges that go back even further to the time of Pyrrus. Legend has it that the bridge's builder, frustrated with each day’s work being ruined by the river, was advised by a bird that the problem could be solved by putting his wife in the foundations which he actually did.
You will enjoy the panoramic view from the bridge on the river and its surroundings before continuing to the Archaeological Museum of Arta, located just a short distance from the bridge and near the banks of Arachthos River.
This museum, fully renovated, houses the antiquities from the wider region of Arta and the exhibits cover a time span from the Palaeolithic to the Roman times. The collection includes funerary stelae and burial offerings from the cemeteries of ancient Ambracia finds from the ancient city of Ambracia, as well as from the "Koudounotrypa" cave, and several other sites in the region of Arta.
Arta is also famous for its Byzantine architecture and churches, the most beautiful and famous one being the church of Panagia Parigoritissa, dating from the 13th century. This church, crowned with towers and domes, is ornate with wall paintings inside dating back hundreds of years that you can discover during your visit.
Following your visit to the church take a stroll around the colourful pedestrian street of the town with its little shops and cafes before you board your coach again for your return drive to the port of Parga.

Your first stop will be made at Nikopolis archaeological site. The town grew and flourished both in Roman times, which numbered about 30,000 residents but also later in Christian times. Among the most important monuments, you will admire Roman and especially Byzantine walls, a theatre, baths, aqueducts and parts of the old churches.
Then, you will visit the Nikopolis museum which contains collections of architectural parts and sculptures from the ancient city and offerings from the cemetery of Nikopolis.
Following your visit, you will board your coach for a short drive to the town of Preveza. Built in 1939 to house the grocery and butchery shops of the city, the building houses today the Municipality’s Cultural Centre.
Then, you will walk to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Agios Charalampos (outside visit) before continuing passing by the Venetian Clock Tower.
