Collioure is a delightful little Catalan port, a link between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean, backing onto the Albères massif, from which vines tumble down towards the sea. From the port, you’ll spot the Church of Our Lady of the Angels, whose bell tower has assimilated the former lighthouse, and the imposing silhouette of the royal medieval castle, a designated historic monument. It was successively home to the kings of Majorca, Aragon, Spain and France. Wandering the narrow alleyways of the old town, you’ll discover colourful houses distilling a melodious palette enhanced by the Mediterranean sun. It is no accident that the Fauve movement, led by Matisse, created a new pictorial language here, bringing together colour and emotion.
