Le Commandant Charcot reveals new scenery and invites you aboard to discover the emblematic Baltic cities, at the dawn of the magical Christmas season. Along the coasts bordering the Baltic Sea, winter is setting in. Cold winds are blowing across the roofs of these former strongholds. As the festive season approaches, soak up the warm atmosphere of the Christmas markets, where the aromas of mulled wine, cinnamon, ginger bread and sweet treats tantalizingly pervade the maze of picturesque alleyways.
From the refined cocoon of Le Commandant Charcot, opening onto the exterior, you will plunge into the enchanted panoramas of fascinating rocky islets, captivating nature and scenic old towns. Here, the towns shimmer. Like a starry sky, the illuminations of these emblematic cities will immediately immerse you in the enchantment of Christmas, a tradition that is well-established in the history and hearts of the Scandinavians. Accompanied by the sound of traditional singing, you will be captivated by the concerts, markets, and other culinary discoveries. Here, during an exceptional cruise, you will discover the skerries, the islands that rise out of the deep blue waters like majestic guardians.
Strolling around the markets, by the light of the falling night, you will be able to contemplate the architecture of each of these towns, which reflects their identity and their history. In some of them, there are paved streets echoing the Art Nouveau era, and impressive fortifications and wide, straight streets demonstrate the prowess of military urban planning while, in others, the gothic and baroque styles of architecture blend in with modern buildings to create a unique urban landscape. This is a final magical interlude amidst captivating scenery before you sail towards elegant Helsinki, which will be the final port of call on this enchanted journey.

Kaviari
For over 40 years, we have been sourcing the finest caviar from the four corners of the world and maturing it in our Paris laboratory. To preserve the species, we were the first to turn to breeders and work hand in hand with them to produce exceptional caviar using traditional, artisanal know-how. For a long time, Kaviari had exclusive rights to import wild Iranian caviar into France. Today, the company draws on its history and expertise to select the finest grains from around the world and offer farmed caviars worthy of the wild caviars of yesteryear. Kaviari works exclusively with farms that raise endemic species locally, respecting three criteria: the quality of the water, the well-being of the sturgeon and certified GMO-free, antibiotic-free feed. Kaviari manages the caviar production with the breeders, contributing the know-how it has learned alongside the Iranian masters. Our team travels with its friends from the Shilat (Iran's state fishing organisation) to train breeders and produce "Iranian-style caviar" using traditional methods. The aim is to achieve a taste that is close to and just as remarkable as that of wild caviar. Traceability is essential to our business. Kaviari has a laboratory that complies with HACCP standards to ensure perfect control over food safety and hygiene. Microbiological analyses are carried out on every batch of caviar. Kaviari also holds health certificates and CITES permits for imports and exports, guaranteeing rigorous traceability checks on all tins of caviar sold. Kaviari matures all its caviar in its own laboratories.
Subject to withdrawal in case of force majeure
During the cruise there will be three gala dinners, a conference on sustainable gastronomy by Alain Ducasse, a tasting workshop of 3 different Kaviari caviars, book signings and other surprises.

ABBA remains the most popular Swedish band of all time, with 378 million albums sold worldwide. ABBA The Museum will trace the group's career from its beginnings in 1970, through the breakthrough of ‘Waterloo’ in 1974, major world tours and, finally, the break-up in 1983. The new museum will not only give you an overall picture of the band, its music and the unlikely success it enjoyed in the 70s and 80s, but you'll also enter an interactive music documentary that invites you backstage, onstage and in front of the stage. Although only one member of ABBA was born in Stockholm, the city can be considered their hometown, as this is where they worked and lived for many years.

The tour continues past the Royal Opera House, scene of ABBA's legendary royal wedding gala in 1976, and where Benny and Anni-Frid once lived in the Old Town. If you visit Gdansk during the end-of-year festivities, then a nocturnal visit to Oliwski Park is a must!
This visit will take you to Oliwa Cathedral, where you will be able to admire the winter illuminations in Oliwski Park: there is a magnificent portal and a magical luminous tunnel, and all the trees, plants and pathways are decorated.
Located on the grounds of a former Cistercian monastery, the cathedral was erected in the 13th century. The Gothic interior was damaged by a fire in 1577 and was replaced by Baroque features that we admire today for their beauty and their intensity. The façade is thus composed of two slender Gothic octagonal towers surrounding a central baroque section. The interior seems very long because of the building’s unusual proportions.
Constructed to a classic plan - three naves with a Latin cross vaulted basilica - the interior is now dominated by the extraordinary organ found above the main entrance. When it was built, it was the largest instrument in Europe.

Discover one of the most popular specialties of Poland: pierogi. This tour will allow you to taste the local food and enjoy a guided tour of Gdansk.
Meet your guide and board your coach for a short 30-minute drive to downtown Gdansk.
Together with your guide, you will arrive at a local workshop where you can make and taste pierogi. Indeed, as far as cuisine is concerned, Poland is the most famous country for its pierogi, also called dumplings. They are made by wrapping pockets of unleavened dough around a savoury or sweet filling and cooking them in boiling water. During this workshop, your local chef will explain all the subtleties of this dish. He will guide you in the preparation of your pierogi. You will have the opportunity to get your hands dirty by following the Polish recipe with local ingredients and your chef's instructions, and prepare your own Polish dumplings. Your chefs know the recipes inside out, so you will not only prepare and taste these delicious dishes, but you will also learn about the true Polish traditions. After the workshop, you will taste your preparations accompanied by a glass of a typical Polish drink, namely kompot. It is a national drink, that is non-alcoholic, which and accompanies the meals in Poland. Very different from the traditional compote, the Polish kompot is prepared with stewed fruits and water.
After this workshop and tastings, you will head to a local restaurant for another tasting: the Goldwasser. This is a strong liquor made from roots and herbs that has been produced since at least 1598 in Gdansk. The most striking feature of this drink is the presence of small gold flakes of 22 or 23 carats suspended in the drink. You will learn more about its history from your guide and taste the liquor.
Finally, your guide will take you to the heart of Gdansk for a guided tour of the Old Town. - tThe city's 1,000-year history has left a rich collection of buildings and monuments designed in a splendid mix of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Although Gdansk's Old Town is not as old as it looks, as over 80% of the buildings were rebuilt after the devastation of World War II, it has been thoroughly and lovingly restored to its former glory.
Enjoy some free time before re-joining your guide and coach to return to your ship.

Each of them was designed by an eminent architect at the time: Karlis Felsko, Fridrihs Hess, Roberts Pfugs, Reinholds Šmilings, Janis Baumanis.
During the market visit, the chef will join you and accompany you through the stalls to find the ingredients needed for your class. You will then go into the kitchen. During the workshop, the chef will tell you about Latvian culinary traditions and guide you as you prepare the dishes for the lunch you will then eat.

From the pier, your coach will take you through the modern part of the city before reaching the Old Town and stopping at the tall Pikk Hermann tower for a panoramic view of the imposing castle to which it is attached. You will then walk to the Kiek in de Kok tower to enjoy a superb view of the upper town’s towers and bell towers.

If you like adventure, pull on a pair of snowshoes and set off to explore the bog landscapes in the snow!
Soomaa's peat bogs and rivers are covered in ice in winter. It is at this time of year that you can visit the peatland areas that are inaccessible in summer and spot animal tracks in the snow. A major site in the Soomaa region, the national park was established in 1993 to protect peat bogs, floodplain meadows, forests and endangered species habitats, as well as cultural heritage.
Snowshoes are ideal for exploring the peat bogs in snowy weather. When Soomaa is covered in ice, snowshoeing can be replaced by sledding, another traditional winter activity in Estonia.
After 30 to 40 minutes of walking, you will be able to sit around a fire and enjoy a lunch of hot soup, delicious pies, tea and cakes. You will then be able to continue your snowshoe walk for an hour and a half.

Day 5 – Helsinki – Porvoo
After breakfast, you will be drive through the Finnish countryside to the medieval town of Porvoo for a one-hour drive.
The City of Porvoo originated as a trading hub for Porvoo Parish inhabitants at the point where the sea meets the Porvoonjoki River. The town was named after the ancient fortress Borgå, the Swedish name for Porvoo, and was granted town rights by the Swedish King Magnus Eriksson in 1346. Old Porvoo is one of the treasures of Finnish architectural history, and the town looks the same today as it did during the Middle Ages.
During your visit, you will see the red riverside storehouses that formed a medieval harbour, where salt and other products were imported. Today, they have come to symbolise Porvoo, and are among Finland’s most photographed attractions. Porvoo is a beautiful winter city with a very cozy atmosphere, with old wooden houses in the Old Town. Porvoo has traditionally attracted a host of artists, who have lived and worked in the town: Finnish poet J.L Runeberg, painter Albert Edelfeldt and sculptor Ville Vallgren have all been inspired by its unique charm.
After your visit, you will drive from Porvoo to the unique Haikko Manor, situated near the city centre. Haikko was the former home of the Romanov family during the Russian Revolution; the family lived there for almost 3 years before moving to Paris.
Your visit to Haikko Manor concludes with a 3 -course lunch in a relaxing atmosphere, before re-joining your coach for the return drive to Helsinki.

Day 6 – Helsinki
Meet and greet at the lobby of your hotel with your guide and transfer to the pier.
Take the ferry to the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress where you will go on a walking tour of the island and have lunch in the local restaurant.
The buildings on this fortress island date mainly from the period of Swedish rule at the end of the 18th century, although there are also 19th-century buildings from the time of Russian rule.
The fortress was built for two reasons: to improve defensive fortifications in the eastern part of the Swedish Kingdom; and to build a much-needed naval base in Helsinki. In 1750, the fortress was named Sveaborg (Castle of Svea) and, soon after, the building of a dry dock was launched. This dry dock served to build warships for the archipelago’s fleet and is today used for the restoration of old wooden sail boats. Nowadays, the island is a suburban area home to 850 people, who live in the renovated ramparts and barracks.
In 1991, Suomenlinna became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
You will then be transferred to the pier of Helsinki to embark on board your ship.

Since then, ABBA has survived thanks to a number of musical projects led by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, whose musical Mamma Mia! has rekindled public interest in ABBA's music.
After leaving the quay, you will see the town hall where Benny first performed. The tour continues past the Royal Opera House, scene of ABBA's legendary royal wedding gala in 1976, and where Benny and Anni-Frid once lived in the Old Town. As you make your way through the city's districts and past most of the sights, you won't miss any of the city's highlights!

From the pier in Gdansk, you will board your coach for a drive through the suburban and commercial sections of Gdansk on your way to the Old Town.
The city's 1,000 years of history have left a collection of buildings and monuments designed in Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Your guided walk will bring you to the heart of the city - the Old Town. You will see buildings decorated with elaborate facades crowded by ornate gables. You will pass by the Town Hall, Long Market and the beautiful 15th century merchant's Palace of Artus Court. Pause at Neptune's Fountain to admire this monumental symbol of Gdansk's Hanseatic past and its connection with the sea before walking down to the waterfront canal. Then take Mariacka or St. Mary's Street, which delight its visitors with its lively atmosphere, quaint shops and lovely terraced buildings.
Continue to St. Mary's Church, the pride of Gdansk. Gothic St. Mary's is the world's largest brick church, accommodating some 25,000 worshippers. Situated in the centre of Old Town, this medieval church took 159 years to build, and its deceivingly plain exterior belies a bright, spacious interior with large windows and more than 30 beautifully decorated chapels. The floor is covered with ancient tombstones, and the northern transept holds an amazing 15th-century astronomical clock, complete with the zodiac cycle and a calendar of the saints. Enjoy some time at leisure to shop for amber jewellery, artwork and souvenirs in the Old Town of Gdansk.
Next, drive to the Polish Baltic Philharmonic and enjoy an exlusive concert of Polish classical music, which presents the most famous pieces of classical music written by Frédéric Chopin, as well as other great masters that continued his tradition: Edward Grieg, Fritz Kreisler, Wojciech Kilar (a contemporary film music composer) and Henryk Wieniawski. The entire programme will be performed by a renowned Polish pianist Rafal Lewandowski.
After the concert, re-board your coach for the return drive to the pier and your ship.
