On this 8-day itinerary aboard Le Soléal, from Fukuoka to Taïwan, you will discover the rich natural heritage, traditional villages and craft of the Okinawa and Yaeyama Islands, in the Ryukyu archipelago.
Departing from Fukuoka, you will set a southward course to reach the captivating, mountainous island of Yakushima, listed as World Heritage by UNESCO. Providing an unspoiled natural setting for endemic species such as the Yakushima monkey and deer, the island is home to an exceptional natural environment featuring forests of ancient cedars, bewitching waterfalls, and majestic peaks.
Le Soléal will make its way to the island of Amami Oshima, between Kyushu and Okinawa. You will fall in love with this island surrounded by stunning coral reefs, punctuated with verdant peaks, covered in primary forest and monumental mangroves, and boasting strong Okinawan influences.
Your next port of call will be Zamami, in the Kerama Islands. You will enjoy the unspoiled beauty of this pristine island, known the world over for the distinctive blue of the surrounding sea, called “Kerama blue”. The sea life in the area is also exceptionally rich and sea turtles can often be spotted swimming among the coral.
Following a port of call in the picturesque village of Taketomijima, with its traditional Okinawan dwellings and its idyllic sandy expanses, Le Soléal will sail south to Ishigaki, Ishigaki, the capital island of the Yaeyama Islands. In the Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park, you will be able to enjoy the dynamic atmosphere of the eponymous city or discover Kabira Bay, renowned for its idyllic scenery, combining crystal-clear turquoise water and beaches of white sand.
Next, you will set sail south to the island of Iriomotejima. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this little corner of paradise will enchant you with its authentic and preserved character, with its wild beaches lying alongside traditional villages surrounded by luxurious tropical forest: jungle, mangrove, rivers, waterfalls. This unique biodiversity is made up of many endemic species.
The landscapes on the remote island of Yonagunijima, the easternmost of the Ryukyu Islands, offer a striking contrast: cliffs, windswept meadows, wild horses. The beauty of its sea-beds and their mysterious rocky formations will delight the most experienced divers.
You will end your cruise in Keelung, the port of the Taiwanese capital Taipei.

Expedition programmes include activities such as zodiac outings and landings (sometimes with "wet landings"), moderate walks to more active hikes, all accompanied by your expedition team of naturalist guides.
Ports of call, visited sites, outings and landings will depend on weather conditions, winds and the state of the sea. These can force a change of plans at any time. The Captain and the Expedition Leader may at any time cancel or stop any activity, or even modify the itinerary. The final itinerary will be confirmed by the Captain, who will take into account the touristic quality of the sites and above all, the safety of the passengers. His decision will be based on advice from experts and authorities.
Travelling to isolated regions is an exhilarating experience. In remote areas, please remember that you are far from modern hospitals with full medical facilities, thus evacuation is extremely expensive. Without adequate medical coverage, all expenses will have to be immediately paid with your personal funds. PRECAUTIONS:
In your hand luggage, remember to bring any medicines that you need, and possibly a small spare bag of toiletries (in case of delay in the delivery of your baggage by the airline). Remember to always have your travel documents with you in case you need them: hotel vouchers, cruise vouchers, return flight tickets... Never leave them in your hold luggage.
All our cabins have a safe. We recommend not to go ashore with valuable jewellery.

Diving - Expedition Cruise
Supervision of the dives
Your dives will be led by your PONANT instructor. He will take care of your safety and that all goes smoothly. On some diving sites, as in natural reserves or if the local regulations require it, a local guide will escort the diving.
Level required for scuba diving on this cruise
The minimum level required for scuba diving on this cruise is 2 star CMAS or the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent). The certification card, the diving log book and a recent medical certificate (less than 12 months) must be presented at the beginning of the cruise to our main diving instructor.
Process of the dives (certified divers)
The instructor reserves the right to check divers’ ability for maximum safety. As we will dive in remote places, the dives will be done without decompression stop. A safety stop of 3 minutes at 5 metres will be mandatory. The depth that can be reached will depend on the certification of the divers:
- For those with PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certificate (or equivalent), the maximum depth can be up to 25 metres.
- If two PADI Advanced Open Water Divers (or equivalent) wish to dive together independently, they must have a briefing first. They must have dive computers and are allowed to go to a maximum depth of 20 metres.
Duration of the dives
The diving activity lasts from 2 to 3 hours, which includes the journey to the diving site and the diving. This duration may vary according to the site, the level of divers, weather conditions and the number of participants. For experienced divers, the duration of dives varies between 35 and 60 minutes depending on the site, the diver’s experience and consumption.

Fauna and flora of the Pacific ocean
The fauna of the Pacific ocean is very varied. During the various dives, divers can observe various species of benthic fauna such as napoleon fish, racoonbutterfly fish, and pelagic fauna such as manta rays, gray reef sharks, dolphin fish, as well as endemic wildlife such as different soft corals.

At the northern tip of the subtropical island of Kyūshū, Fukuoka stands proudly at the centre of a veritable natural setting, between lush mountains and the crystal-clear and calm waters of Hakata Bay. A modern city and high-tech hub, which has earned it the nickame of the Japanese “Silicon Valley” in particular, the seventh town in Japan stands out for its rich cultural and historical heritage. Promoted as one of the nerve centres of maritime trade from the 15th century onward, it experienced long decades of prosperity. A period of splendour which, among other things, saw the construction of many spiritual buildings, including the Sumiyoshi-jinja shrine and the Tochoji temple, as well as its emblematic Maizuru Castle, erected in the 17th century.

Situated in the East China Sea in the Nansei archipelago, a group of islands also known as the Ryuku Islands and lying to the south-west of Japan between Kyūshū and Taiwan, Amami Oshima (literally “Amami Big Island”) is the largest of the Amami Islands. It is influenced by the culture of the great Okinawa archipelago. Amami Oshima is a world apart, with wild and pristine nature in which you will experience the tranquillity of the place. The old-growth forest covers 95% of the island’s surface and can be discovered along hiking trails. Its 700,000 m2 of mangrove, the second largest in Japan, are breathtaking.

Zamami is an island in the Kerama archipelago, 40 km (25 miles) west of Okinawa Island in the China Sea. Visitors to this 16 km2 (6 mi2) quasi-uninhabited isle are enchanted by the many untouched natural treasures they find here. You will discover a tranquil island with lush vegetation, lined with stunning white-sand bays bathing in the glimmering ‘Kerama blue’ waters around the archipelago. Zamami is also renowned for the beauty of its coral reefs, where multicoloured fish engage in an endless mesmerising ballet. The observation deck on Mount Takatsuki reveals stunning views of the Kerama Islands, granted national park status in 2014. With subtle shifting shades of azure above and all around, this island truly is paradise.

Off the coast of the Okinawa Prefecture, Taketomi Island (Taketomijima) is fascinating for its traditional character, preserved in a beautiful, lush setting. Like its big sisters, Ishigaki and Kuroshima, this island in the Yaeyama archipelago is the ideal destination for an immersion in typical landscapes and the insular way of life of the former Ryukyu Kingdom. Here, time seems to have stood still. There are very few cars about; bicycles and carriages drawn by imposing oxen remain the only means of transport. This is an ideal opportunity to wander through the picturesque streets lined with traditional dwellings with red-tiled roofs and lion-shaped shisa statues placed in front of the vast majority of houses to keep evil spirits at bay.

On the north-east tip of Taiwan, the harbour city of Keelung stands on one of the most beautiful coasts on the island. Nearby is the spectacular natural park of Yehliu, famed for its striking rock formations. Diving
During an introduction to scuba diving or a more advanced dive for holders of the necessary certifications (level 1 on yachting cruises and 2 on expedition cruises), explore the planet’s most beautiful underwater environments in the company of a PONANT diving instructor, as well as a local instructor when required by local legislation. They will ensure that your dives are conducted smoothly and safely: supervision of four certified divers at a time, evaluation of diving skills and experience, adherence to safety stops, zones and the maximum depth authorised.

Day 2 - Fukuoka
After breakfast and check-out, you will start your day of visit at the Tochoji Temple.
You will visit Tochoji Temple to see the Great Buddha. A designated historical site, Tochoji is the head temple of the Kyushu sect of Shingon Buddhism. It contains a Buddhist Senju Kannon statue from the Heian period, between the 8th and 12th centuries, carved out of a single log of black pine. One of this temple’s most remarkable treasures is the Great Buddha of Fukuoka. It took four years to carve this statue, starting in 1988. Standing approximately 11 metres (36 feet) tall and weighing 30 tons, it is the largest seated Buddha statue in Japan.
Your second stop will be Kushida Shrine. The grand deity of Kushida Shrine, Ohata Nushina-mikoto, and the grand deity of Gion Shrine, Amaterasu-omikami, are enshrined here. The shrine was built in 757 and is considered the guardian of Hakata.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant.
After lunch, you will attend the Morimoto Noh Theater for a Noh experience.
Noh is a form of dramatic theatre unique to Japan. It reached its peak about 650 years ago. Considered to be one of the oldest dramatic arts in the world, Noh has been designated as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Noh consists of Mai (dance), Utai (vocals), and Hayashi (music). Many of the feudal lords loved Noh and even performed it. Even today, Noh is loved by people all over Japan. A professional actor will deliver a short presentation of Noh and Noh masks. You will enjoy a live Noh performance, including dancing and chanting by the Noh actor dressed in a kimono and wearing a mask.
You will then be transferred to the pier of Fukuoka to embark on board your ship.

Day 1 - Tokyo
Meet at Narita International airport. Look for PONANT sign.
You will be greeted by our local representative off the flight selected by PONANT or any other flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).
You will depart the airport by coach for your 5* hotel Okura Tokyo selected by PONANT, for checking in.

Day 2 - Tokyo
Breakfast.
You will first visit the superb National Museum of Tokyo which houses the world's largest collection of Japanese art, as well as ancient pottery, religious sculptures, Samurai swords, kimonos and many other objects.
Then, you will go to the very popular district of Asakusa for lunch, where the traditional atmosphere of Tokyo lives on.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant (Japanese menu).
After lunch, you will visit the famous Senso-ji Buddhist temple constructed in the 7th century. The main hall was first built in 645 to house a small golden statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, that fishermen had hauled out in their nets several times.
After the large Kaminarimon gate, you will walk down the long arcade called Nakamise-dori, before discovering a five-story pagoda, the highest one after the To-jin Temple south of Kyoto. The lesser-known Shinto Asakusa Shrine to the right of the main hall is the venue for one of the country's most famous Shinto festivals, the Sanja Matsuri.
On the way back to your hotel, you will stop at the Imperial Palace Plaza. This historic treasure is built on the site of the former Edo castle, which, at its peak, was the largest in the world. Only the moats and the ramparts remain today. The main building is well-hidden in a small forest and is not visible.

Day 3 - Tokyo

Arriving at the sumo stable, watch the wrestlers train in the art of this ancient Japanese sport. Sumo wrestling began as a religious ritual before becoming an elite sport. It is believed that sumo first originated as part of a Shinto religious ceremony to welcome in the new year. Professional sumo developed during the Muromachi period (1336-1573).
Enjoy the sight of these traditional outfits and setting, while you take in the precise movements of the sumo wrestlers in action.
Then, you will enjoy an intimate experience in the heart of the Bonsai Museum. Through the art of Kunio Kobayashi, the museum's founder, you will be initiated in this traditional horticultural practice. Apprentices from around the world will tell you about the history of the art of cutting bonsai, a symbol of harmony and serenity.

After lunch, the next visit will be devoted to the Hama-rikyu Gardens. Overlooked by the skyscrapers of the Shidome business district, this traditional Japanese garden was created in the 17th century and has been designated both a Special National Historic Site and a Special National Place of Scenic Beauty by the Japanese Ministry of Culture. It features the only seawater pond dating back to the Edo era in Tokyo. In this calm and soothing oasis, you will enjoy the experience of a tea ceremony in the Nakashima-no-ochaya tea house.
You will then be transferred to the Japan Sake and Shochu Information Center. Shochu is an authentic spirit that originated in Japan. Produced mainly in southern Japan for over 500 years, it resulted from a combination of the basic sake brewing technique and the distillation method. The development of this unique method itself underlines the history of shochu. The oldest record of its use in alcohol production dates back to 800-750 BC in both India and Ethiopia. By the 13 and 14th centuries, it had reached China and several Southeast Asian countries. The technique entered the modern-day Japanese archipelago around the 15th century through trades between the southern islands and surrounding countries.
You will be driven to your hotel for a time at leisure to freshen up and rest before dinner.
Enjoy a Japanese Shabu-shabu dinner served in a local restaurant. For your meal, a pot of boiling water to cook food will be placed on your table. You will dip thin slices of beef and fresh vegetables into a pot of broth several times for few seconds. "Shabu-shabu" is the sound of the meat swished in the broth.

Day 4 - Tokyo
Breakfast.
Your first visit will be devoted to Meiji Jingu Shrine. It is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shoken. Emperor Meiji passed away in 1912 and Empress Shoken, in 1914. The shrine spreads over 700,000 square meters covered by a forest of 120,000 trees of 365 species donated by people from all over Japan. For many Japanese the shrine is both a spiritual home and an oasis in Tokyo.
Then, you will have some time to stroll around Omotesando Street. This avenue, "the front approach", originally served Meiji Shrine. It is one of the most fashionable areas of Tokyo with numerous high-endly qualified brand shops and sophisticated restaurants.
On your way to a local restaurant for your lunch, you will cross the globally famous Shibuya Crossing. Known as the largest crossing in the world, it embodies the bubbling, modern and prosperous metropolis. For the Japanese, the Shibuya Crossing is also the story of Hachiko. This dog would wait here for its master every afternoon at the same time, even after his death. The junction thus represents the two essential qualities of the Japanese: loyalty and perseverance.

Day 1 - Keelung/Taipei/Kaohsiung
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.
We recommend that you take a separate bag for the duration of the Post-cruise programme at Taiwan.
Your piece of luggage dedicated to the cruise will be taken by our local representative and stored at Beitou and then transported by coach from disembarkation port to Grand View Hot Springs Resort hotel to be delivered on the third day of your programme.
Your day will start in Taipei, that will first lead you to the Martyr's temple.
It is the largest example of similar memorials which can be found all over Taiwan, dedicated to about 390,000 civilians and soldiers killed in struggles with the Ching dynasty, the Japanese and the Communists. The hourly changing of the guard ceremonies are extremely elaborate affairs, which last more than 15 minutes and are highly photogenic.
You will then stop at the famous National Palace Museum, whose permanent collection houses the world's largest array of ancient Chinese artefacts and artwork, spanning 8,000 years of Chinese history. Faced with the impending fall of the southern capital of Nanjing to the Chinese Communists in 1948, the Nationalist Kuomintang government shipped their most valuable relics to Taiwan - ultimately saving them from the ravages of mainland China's destructive Cultural Revolution.
Your buffet lunch will be served at Taipei's famous Grand Hotel, which was built in 1952 in the decadent style of classic Chinese architecture. After soaking up the rich decor of this imperial hotel, where national leaders including Ronald Reagan and Dwight D. Eisenhower have stayed, relax and savour a fusion-style international buffet lunch.
After lunch, you will be transferred to Taipei station for your transfer to Kaohsiung by train.
On arrival, you will head for the Silks Club 5* hotel.

Day 2 - Kaohsiung

You will first visit the sacred monastery of Fo Guang Shan, Taiwan's main Buddhist center.
Giant Buddha statues welcome you to the Fo Guang Shan Monastery, a one-hour drive from Kaohsiung. Founded in 1967 by the venerable master Hsing Yun, Fo Guang Shan is the best- known Buddhist centre in southern Taiwan and is the largest Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. It comprises a complex of meditation halls, shrines and gardens. Tour the Meditation Hall and the Main Shrine.
Continue to the Buddha Memorial Centre, which is built on more than 247 acres. The design of the Buddha Memorial Centre is inspired by both an Indian stupa and the Mahabodhi Temple inside the Bodhgaya religious site in India. Above it sits the world's tallest bronze sitting Buddha statue. The centre opened in 2011 and was designed to promote cultural and religious education. Four stupas symbolize the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism, while the eight Chinese pavilions denote the Eightfold Path. The last remaining of Buddha's teeth is housed in a special shrine within.
Enjoy a vegetarian lunch at the monastery.
After lunch, enjoy a unique sutra calligraphy experience. The Sutra Calligraphy Hall is set up to offer a place for people to cultivate their minds. Sutra calligraphy is a common practice in Buddhism; it is simple, straightforward, and easy to practice. In a peaceful and solemn environment, you can be inspired by transcribing the Diamond Sutra, the Song of the Ten Practices, or the Roots of Wisdom by Ven. According to Master Hsing Yun, in our busy lives, we need to find a space for the mind to settle, and the Sutra Calligraphy Hall provides visitors with a conducive environment to discover inner peace.
After this experience, you will then take a closer look at Taiwanese art, both old and new, on the shores of Lotus Lake. Pagodas, pavilions, and temples here all boast classical architecture, yet the oldest dates back only to 1951. Explore the Spring and Autumn Pavilions dedicated to the God of War. The graceful Dragon and Tiger Pagodas feature interiors decorated with paintings depicting China's 24 Obedient Sons.
The Tzu-Chi Temple is a magnificent Taoist shrine. Completed in the 1970s, it boasts an interior filled with wildly fantastic depictions of the pantheon of Taoist deities.
You will the enjoy a free time to stroll around the Kaohsiung's port district, with its hundreds of boutiques, cafés, artists' studios. The area is home to some of the world's finest street art.
Dinner will be served in a local restaurant where you will sample Cantonese cuisine.

Jour 3 - Kaohsiung/Tainan/Beitou
After breakfast, you will complete check-out formalities of the hotel before departing for Tainan, Taiwan's oldest city.
At the end of the 16th Century, the Dutch East India Company established a trade base here, and Tainan was the island's capital for more than 200 years.
The prelude to your day will be a visit to the Chikan Towers, the most important historic sites built at the top of the Dutch fort of Provintia,
Elegant gardens and koi ponds surround the two ornate stone towers. A noteworthy landmark here is the Confucius Temple -- the country's oldest. Built in 1666 at the end of the Manchu Dynasty, the temple served as Taiwan's first official school. The impressive temple you see today is the result of a 1917 restoration undertaken when Taiwan was part of the Japanese Empire. Check out the graceful banyan trees and two ceremonial gates that symbolize the main disciplines of Confucianism.
You will discover Taiwanese cuisine in a restaurant specializing in the famous Dan Zai noodles.
After lunch, you will take part in the traditional ceremony of preparing the famous lotus flower tea at Shi-ba-Mao, located in Wu-Family-Garden. The Wu Family Garden is one of the most interesting historical sites in Tainan. From Minquan Road, the first glimpse of the site will be of the Tainan Public Hall building, constructed in a Baroque style. On one side, it blends into the Shi-Ba Mao Teahouse, built in a Japanese wood structure style, and features a classical flower garden built in a Chinese style on another side. Take a leisurely walk to the tea house and experience the unique "Lotus tea ceremony".
Tainan is renowned for the Lotus flower blossom season, from June to September each year. Lotus flowers are used to brew tea and the seeds can be found in many local dishes. Tea leaves will be wrapped in the lotus flower from the previous night. Guests start the tea ceremony by unwrapping the lotus flower, unlocking the fragrance of the tea infused with the aroma of lotus flower blossoms. A professional tea master will demonstrate the authentic tea ceremony and teach you how to make a pot of perfect tea. There will be wagashi (Japanese style sweets) served during the tea tasting.
You will then be transferred to Taipei station for your transfer to Beitou by train.

After breakfast, you will complete check-out formalities of the hotel before starting your day in the thermal valley of the hot springs region.
Located beside Beitou Hot Spring Park, Thermal Valley is one of the sources supplying the area's hot springs. The sulfuric steam that blankets the valley year-round gives the valley a frightening quality, giving rise to nicknames like "Ghost Lake." The springs here have the highest temperatures of any in the Datunshan volcano group. With its surreal sulfuric atmosphere, it's no wonder Thermal Valley was considered one of the "12 great sights of Taiwan" during the Period of Japanese Occupation.

After lunch, you will take a ride on the Taipei Observatory's Guinness World Record-breaking high-speed elevator to reach the indoor observation deck located at the 89th floor, where you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the Taipei metropolitan area. There is also an outdoor observation deck on the 91st floor open for visit, weather permitting.
You will proceed with a stroll down Di-hua Street, famous for traditional merchandises like Chinese medicines & dried seafood, now mixed with modern cafes and culture-creative shops in the area. Historic Di-hua Street is crammed with photogenic shop houses built in the Baroque style, many dating from the 1920s. Since then, Di-hua Street has become an important centre for commerce and selling traditional Chinese medicine, herbs, dried-food, fabrics, and Taiwanese tea. Visit lively and well-loved Hsia-hai City God Temple, built in 1856, and famous for the Matchmaker (said to have brought together 6 000 couples).
At the end of your day, you will be transferred to the Regent Taipei 5* hotel to complete hotel check-in formalities before settling into your room to freshen up.

Shifen is a small, traditional mountain village with a railway running through it. Its an-cient streets are unique and famous, as this is one of the only remaining places in Taiwan where the old houses are so close to the railway tracks. You will get to observe an activity that is typical in Shifen: releasing paper lanterns into the night sky for good luck. The pre-ferred place to enjoy this "sky lantern" experience is right in the middle of the train tracks!
You will then make your way to Jiufen, where you will enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before visiting the old city. This will be followed by free time to stroll along the narrow streets.
It is said that a long time ago there were only nine families in Jiufen. Before the roads were built, all materials were transported via ships, so it became customary to always order nine units of a same item - one for each of the families. Hence the name of the place, Jiu Fen, meaning nine parts. Located on the north-east coast of Taiwan, it used to be the centre of gold mining. The village is built on a mountain side and faces the sea. In 1890, someone struck gold near it. The poor village with only nine families soon attracted 4 000 families of prospectors. Once considered the gold city of Asia and called Little Shanghai or Little Hong Kong, with the decline of gold mining activities Jiufen faded.

This tradition was invented during the Three Kingdoms period (220-265). Originally, the lanterns were used to communicate military intelligence. In the early 19th century, the Lantern Festival was brought to Taiwan, where annually, at the beginning of the spring planting season, people would release “sky lanterns” into the air as a prayer for the coming year. For many years, the “Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival” has had a brilliant history. In addition to enjoying its reputation as part of the sky lantern tradition in Taiwan, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival was voted by the Discovery Channel as the second biggest night-time celebration in the world. The sky lanterns carry the prayers and vows of the people; through them, the festival-goers seek the purification of their souls. The festival advertises the Taiwan spirit to the world. The main activity consists of buying lanterns and writing wishes, dreams and prayers on them for the coming year, then releasing them into the night sky.
You will then make your way to Jiufen, where you will enjoy lunch in a local restaurant before visiting the old city. This will be followed by free time to stroll along the narrow streets.
It is said that a long time ago there were only nine families in Jiufen. Before the roads were built, all materials were transported via ships, so it became customary to always order nine units of a same item – one for each of the families. Hence the name of the place, Jiu Fen, meaning nine parts. Located on the north-east coast of Taiwan, it used to be the centre of gold mining. The village is built on a mountain side and faces the sea. In 1890, someone struck gold near it. The poor village with only nine families soon attracted 4,000 families of prospectors. Once considered the gold city of Asia and called Little Shanghai or Little Hong Kong, with the decline of gold mining activities Jiufen faded. Later, several movies were shot there, some of them gaining international recognition. For example, The Sad City won first prize at the Venice Film Festival and awakened people's memory of this village.
During your visit, the prosperous old streets and buildings will bring the town’s history under your eyes. The place is full of traces of its golden past. Now, there are many unique teahouses in the area. These teahouses are the best stops during your visit to this mountain village. You will also enjoy beautiful views of the Keelung outer sea.

You will start your day trip in Taipei by discovering the renowned National Palace Museum, boasting one of the world's most important art collections, originally housed in Beijing's Forbidden City. In 1931, the collection was moved to Nanjing, then on to Shanghai, to avoid war damage. In 1949, Chiang Kai Shek's armies took the collection to Taiwan, following their defeat at the hands of Mao Zedong. Today, the museum holds over 700,000 items, including jade, bronze, porcelain, and lacquer pieces, as well as tapestries and embroideries.
You will then visit the remarkable Martyrs’ Shrine, built in memory of those who sacrificed their lives to found Taiwan, and you will witness the renowned changing of the guards ceremony. Then, you will enjoy an international buffet lunch at the Grand Hotel.
After lunch, you will proceed to the 254-year-old Lungshan Temple and pray for good health. This centre of Buddhist and Taoist worship is ornately adorned with art treasures, including exquisite bronze, stone, and wood carvings. Settlers from the Fukien province built the temple in the 18th century. Although it is dedicated to Kuan Yin, the goddess of mercy, and Matsu, the goddesses of the sea, many other deities are also worshipped here.
You will also get the chance to visit the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, a magnificent building constructed in memory of the former president, Mr Chiang.
Then, you will return to your hotel. Enjoy time at leisure to rest and refresh before being transferred to the airport in time for check-in for the PONANT selected flight or any other flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).

There might be some queues at popular displays at the National Palace Museum.
