Travel with peace of mind as PONANT organises your day time between your port of debarkation and the airport.
Day 1 – Rio de Janeiro
You will be welcome at the pier by our local representative. Board your coach for a ride to the Cosme Velho neighborhood, where the old Corcovado train station, built in 1882, is located. Upon exiting the coach, you will take a rack railway electric train for a 20-minute ascent. During the journey, you will pass through the Tijuca Forest, considered the largest urban forest in the world.
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Brazil’s independence proclamation from Portugal, the Brazilian government organized a competition in 1922 featuring various projects. The construction of the Christ the Redeemer statue won. Sculpted by French artist Paul Landowski, the Christ faces the entrance to the bay to welcome visitors who mainly arrived by boat at the time. Built atop Corcovado Hill at 710 meters high, the Christ has become the city’s main landmark. Completed in 1931, the statue is 30 meters tall and weighs over 1,000 tons. At the summit, you will enjoy a 360° panoramic view encompassing the entire city, offering the best view of Rio.
After your visit, lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, you will visit Sugarloaf Mountain. The trip to the summit is done in two stages by cable car. The first takes you to Urca Hill, 220 meters above sea level, with superb views over Botafogo and Guanabara Bay.
