Decarbonation

Reduce CO² emissions

In 2024, CO² emissions per cruise day will be down 14% compared to the reference year 2018, which is nearly half of the target of -30% by 2030. This reduction is the result of several improvements made in recent years in terms of fleet energy efficiency and the use of alternative energies.

Swap2Zero Project

Achieving the Net Zero target

To achieve the ambitious goal of Net Zero by 2050, PONANT EXPLORATIONS GROUP has also launched a programme of disruptive innovation in naval design and propulsion. Co-financed by the European Union's Innovation Fund (Emissions Trading Scheme), Swap2Zero is an ambitious R&D project. Thanks to the unprecedented use of six major decarbonisation technology building blocks, this first transoceanic vessel aims to achieve zero CO² eq1 emissions during operation.

The PONANT Foundation and Blue Nature Alliance

Developing marine protected areas

The PONANT Foundation supports the international Blue Nature Alliance programme, a global partnership founded and led by Conservation International, which aims to develop marine protected areas around the world. Since January 2022, the Foundation has been supporting several biodiversity conservation projects, particularly in New Caledonia. It is carrying out mangrove restoration initiatives there, while raising awareness and empowering local communities.

Greenland and Polynesia

Supporting local communities

Commander Charcot, taking advantage of his ability to navigate through ice, supplies Inuit communities in Greenland from spring onwards, shortening the period of winter isolation by a month. In Polynesia, the Paul Gauguin provides free medical consultations and care for the populations of the Marquesas and other isolated archipelagos.
