Krossfjorden, the 30 km long fjord of the Cross, located in the west of Spitsbergen, is the largest island in Svalbard and the only one populated all year round. In 1610, the English explorer Jonas Poole discovered the fjord and founded the first whaling station in the small bay of Ebeltofthamna in 1611. To the north, the fjord divides into three other fjords at the bottom of which there are several glaciers with active calving fronts. Lillehöökbreen is one of the most impressive with its 7 km long front. You will also have the opportunity to observe many bird colonies on the steep cliffs where they have made their home. You will notice the northern fulmar, the Arctic tern and the thick-billed murre.
