While still a modest fishing village only a century ago, Dar es Salaam is now Tanzania’s economic hub and has much evidence of its history. Meaning “House of peace”, the city reveals itself on the shores of the Indian Ocean. In 1857, Majid bin Said, the current Sultan, decided to turn this internal creek into a port and trading post. Today, the National Museum of Tanzania will offer you an overview of the country’s history and its natural environment.
