2028: unprecedented, first circumnavigation of Antarctica aboard Le Commandant Charcot
12 February 2026
A unique exploration in the world
Experience the very essence of polar exploration as you take part in this navigational feat and sail nearly 23,000 kilometres along the icy coastline of a continent that is still largely unexplored.
A first
In January 2028, Le Commandant Charcot will set sail from Ushuaia (Argentina) heading west to Hobart (Tasmania) in 30 days. After a three-day stopover, it will then return to its starting point, following the eastern coast of Antarctica for 31 days.
One of the last unspoilt areas on the planet
On the Ross Sea along the world's largest ice shelf and marine sanctuary, nicknamed the “last ocean”.
Penguins, humpback whales, Antarctic minke whales, orcas, seals, elephant seals, sea lions, petrels, and more.
Of legendary polar explorers - Sir Ernest Shackleton, Sir Robert Falcon Scott, Captain Jean-Baptiste Charcot, Mawson and Amundsen... with the opportunity to visit the remains of their campsites and sail through the area where the Endurance was wrecked.

Little-known and inaccessible lands: Charcot Island, the islands of Marie Byrd Land, Wilkes Land, Adélie Land and the Balleny Islands, etc.
Mount Erebus, the southernmost active volcano on the planet and a landmark for the great expeditions to the South Pole.
In the polar environment: by Zodiac, on snowshoe hikes, by kayak, not forgetting a polar plunge challenge!
The flagship of modern polar exploration
The world’s only luxury icebreaker, Le Commandant Charcot is the only cruise ship with a PC2 class hull, enabling her to operate in extreme conditions. Her hybrid electric propulsion using liquefied natural gas (LNG) limits her environmental impact, while meeting the highest maritime safety standards.
